Industry Profile: Industry Overview/History

While some would suggest that eSports got its start in the 1970s, competitive gaming got its primary currency during the 1980s and has grown every year at a rate of about 15%.
As an industry, eSports made significant strides in the early 2000’s with the proliferation of video games and online gaming.  Consequently, developers have taken advantage of the popularity creating venues to attract gamers into internet cafes and facilities that give video game players the opportunity to play multi-player games on high powered PCs they may not have been able to afford in their own homes.
The eSports industry represents a great equalizer.
